13 Years of Adventures: Vladimir and Sasha's Story
Thirteen years ago, a two-minute television segment changed everything for Vladimir — and for a tiny Bichon Frise named Sasha.
When Vladimir caught BuddyRider® on Dragon's Den, he didn't hesitate. While others questioned whether a bicycle pet seat could really work, he saw exactly what it was: a chance to bring his best friend along for the ride — literally. He placed his order the same day.
At the time, Sasha was just two months old. Vladimir wasn't sure how she'd take to cycling, but she surprised him from the very first outing. She settled in, looked around, and seemed completely at ease. One of his most treasured early memories is riding along Toronto's Lakeshore on the day the BuddyRider® arrived. Looking back at those photos now, it's hard to believe how small she was.
Today, Sasha is 13 years old — a senior dog with a spirit that hasn't slowed down one bit. Every spring, when Vladimir brings his bike out of storage and begins attaching the carrier, she knows. She doesn't need to be told. The moment the seat goes on, her whole body lights up with anticipation.
Just recently, she tried to jump onto it herself before he was even ready to go. That kind of enthusiasm, after 13 years, never gets old.
That excitement prompted Vladimir to look up BuddyRider® and see how the company was doing. He was glad to find it not only still thriving, but continuing to grow — a quiet answer to every skeptic from those early Dragon's Den days.

He also thinks often about Colin and his remarkably well-trained dog Jack, whose story inspired the invention and proved to the world that cycling with your dog could be done safely and joyfully.
Thirteen years on, Vladimir says the BuddyRider® has been woven into some of his happiest memories with Sasha. They're both a little older now. But every time he reaches for his bike, her tail starts wagging — and just like that, they're both reminded that the best adventures are the ones you share.
